Madeley born and bred local businesswoman, Lyndy Boden, is Centre Manager for the The Anstice. Lyndy takes her position very seriously, always putting first the best interests of The Anstice and the Madeley community. Her passion stems from her parents, who first met at The Anstice many years ago. Following the offer of a bitter lemon drink, her parents courted in Madeley and later married. Lyndy promises to continue to do what she believes is right for this beautiful Grade II listed building, which is set in the heart of our community and serves the people of Madeley and surrounding areas.
Madeley born and bred, Karen’s Grandad was an Anstice Committee member in the 1960s and she was allowed to visit the Anstice twice as a child. Firstly, when her Mum took her to Lloyd’s Bank in her pushchair and secondly, as a member of the Abdab band in the 70s. These days Karen lives off the High Street with her husband and family. She was a founder ACT Trustee and Treasurer, and has now been appointed as Finance Manager. Karen is fiercely proud of Madeley and that The Anstice has been saved by the local community. Previous to The Anstice re-opening, for the last five years, Karen could often be found at weekend events across Telford and beyond, raising funds for The Anstice with Rita.
Laura has worked at The Anstice now for five years; the time has flown! Her vision is the same as when she first started - for The Anstice to be a safe, welcoming and kind environment which brings people together, offers opportunities to take part, and empowers the local community. Laura looks after our amazing cohort of volunteers and runs various groups and activities at The Anstice.
Sarah has lived in the area all of her life. A former Mayor of Madeley, Sarah enjoys being involved and supporting the local community. Her children attended local schools and have gone on to do wonderful things. Sarah’s eldest now lives in Canada and her youngest is a music teacher in Telford. Sarah’s earliest memory of visiting The Anstice was as a young teen when she attended a Darts Presentation with her parents. She has always been very impressed with the building and attended many more events over the years, including her eldest’s wedding reception. A big Northern Soul fan, he wanted to make use of The Anstice’s fantastic sprung dance floor!
Julie Morgan, a secondary school teacher for over 20 years, is Vice Chair for ACT. Julie has lived in Madeley all of her life and has a big family who have lived here for generations. She is committed to providing a community building that serves the needs of everyone in our locality. She would especially like to see our young people use the building and invite in fresh faces with all the enthusiasm and energy that they can bring!
After 20 years in marketing, business planning and crisis management June moved back to the Midlands in 2011, becoming Chair of Groundwork West Midlands, Secretary of the Anstice Community Trust and is now Chair of Just Credit Union. June thought her Dad was joking when he said there was a ballroom upstairs in The Anstice. She joined the Save the Anstice campaign in 2014, was responsible for registering ACT as a charity, worked on both successful National Lottery bids and continues to raise funds for The Anstice.
Rita is a familiar figure at events across Telford. Supported by sister Roberta and daughter Karen (also ACT Finance Manager), Rita’s busy Tombola stall and popular jams, eggs and pickles sales have raised much needed funds for The Anstice since 2014. Born in Lincolnshire and moved to Madeley as a child, Rita has fond memories of The Anstice in the 60s when her Dad Bob Pitman was a Committee member. Rita worked at Madeley Court as a Dinner Lady for many years and her twin passions are animals, especially her horse Midas, and she has been active in many community organisations including Madeley Cricket Club, Wrekin North Riding Club and International Aid charity Aquabox. A founder ACT Trustee, Rita was involved with the Save the Anstice campaign from the start. She is determined to bring The Anstice back to its rightful place at the welcoming heart of the community which she and many older Madeley residents remember so well.
Chun has been an ACT Trustee since 2017. An ex Madeley Court pupil, Chun lives in Madeley and runs two businesses including Madeley Laundry. He's a Wolves fan, passionate about martial arts, as a 3rd Dan he teaches all ages from 6 years old up to adults and, with the help of his wife Kam and the rest of the family, he has fundraised for a range of good causes including bike rides for MS and Cancer Research in India, China, Cuba and Brazil. He's always been an enthusiastic volunteer for ACT, has supported the Anstice Youth Club since it started and has helped the local community, working with the homeless, organising the Anstice foodbank collection, delivering lockdown shopping and medication with his sons Jussi and Evan and delivering winter coats and shoes to families in need across Telford.
Dot Holden, retired Finance/Procurement Officer/Equality & Diversity Co-ordinator for the Civil Service, is now a Genealogist. This ties into her strong belief that our historic buildings should be cherished and used by the community. Dot moved to Madeley eight years ago, but when she learned about the history of The Anstice, she was delighted to volunteer and help preserve this wonderful building. Dot is particularly keen to see the building become the heart of Madeley again, as it was originally, and for the local community to enjoy the wide range of activities that will take place in the newly refurbished building.
Stephenie has five children, lives in Madeley and works for Wrekin Housing Group as a Building Assistant. Her first involvement with The Anstice was through the Madeley Regeneration Board, a group of local business owners working with the then Parish Council to try and preserve Madeley through the Tesco development. The Regeneration Board tried but failed to engage the old Anstice management to raise funds for renovation and repairs. When the club went into administration she jumped at the chance to join the Anstice Community Trust and begin work to revive the building. Her practical skills have been invaluable. Stephenie discovered and cleaned the beautiful tiles in the entrance hall, inventoried and cleared the building ready for the builders, has supported many fundraising events since she joined the Board and worked on the National Lottery bid which won funding to renovate the ballroom.
Janice has been a member of Madeley Town Council for 21 years, and during that time has spent three terms in office as Ward Member for Madeley and Sutton Hill. Within her role as a Councillor she has given her full support to this venture since its conception. Janice is really pleased with the successful achievements of the team at The Anstice, and is delighted to be have been given the opportunity to be part of the success moving forward.
Jayde started as a volunteer on the reception desk in March 2020 and in September 2021 she joined The Anstice team as an Admin Assistant. She enjoys the variety of her role including answering the phone, responding to emails, selling tickets and performing administrative tasks.
John has worked in the IT industry for over 40 years more latterly as a project and programme director delivering complex solutions to support UK Government. He has lived in Telford for 25 years. He has a passion for enabling social mobility especially in providing opportunities for younger people in our local community. He has been a governor at Haberdashers Abraham Darby for 20 years and more recently is serving as Chair of Governors. John enjoys listening to music and all forms of sport although he is not quite as active as he used to be. He is a lifelong supporter of Wrexham FC and no, he doesn’t know Ryan Reynolds.
Grant’s career in Human Resources has been across a wide range of sectors, his last role being in International Human Resources for a global Toy, Game & Entertainment corporation. In the late 1980s his first HR job was for the newly opened Marks & Spencer store in Telford Town Centre. Grant moved back to the area in 2008 and chose Madeley as his home. Grant has a passion for history and with his colleagues at Madeley History Group helped tell the story of The Anstice for the reopening in 2020. He was delighted to be asked to become a Trustee and hopes his business experience helps build a sustainable future for this wonderful community resource.
